Trefimet was created with the aim of marketing steel in Chile, importing it mainly from Brazil.
It is supported by marketing steels in general and beginning in the manufacture of drawn bar steel, mainly to cover the needs of the bolt industry.
Its founding partners were Martín Astorga and Víctor Peña Johannsen.
THE BEGINNING
COMUNA DE NOS, SANTIAGO DE CHILE.
Creation of a new plant in NOS. Extension of the drawn steel line to supply the locksmith and conveyor belt industry.
At the end of this year, Trefimet begins to have market problems, because strong competition enters with drawn steels that arrive from Argentina, Brazil and South Africa. Trefimet is immersed in the commercial fight, reducing marketing margins and increasing credit terms to its customers.

REINVENTION
SAN BERNARDO, SANTIAGO DE CHILE.
Change to San Bernardo. Business reinvention after a severe economic crisis.
The first steps are taken in the manufacture of steel tubes and pipes, in special measures. Significant experience is gained and Trefimet gradually becomes an expert company in special tubes drawing. Around the year 1999, Trefimet is a well-positioned company in new items that used special tubes, reaching these new businesses after a year, representing about 70% of total sales.
SPECIAL PRODUCTS
FOCUSED ON MINING.
Trefimet had already become a specialist in the manufacture of special steel tubes and pipes, but always with the pressure that Chinese companies would conquer the Chilean market with their low-priced, poor-quality products, a quality that was not generally objected for the market.
Due to the above, Trefimet mission was to find out how we could find a special tube product (using the wire drawing process as a base) and that would have a periodic consumption.

OXIBAR.
Specialization in mining products, creation of the Oxibar lance. We developed the first Trefimet thermal lance and it was called Oxibar and we use its name to this day to serve various clients locally and internationally.
Until then (2002), cash flow was no longer a problem, on the contrary, we began to have a cash surplus.
In the same year our first invention, the Oxibar thermal lance, was also patented.
COPPER FURNACES
SUPEROXYBAR & ULTRAOXYBAR LANCES.
Presence in copper furnaces. Creation of SuperOxibar and UltraOxibar.
We began to use the trial-and-error tool to search for new types of thermal lances for other applications and new types were created. Around 2005 we were already beginning to obtain corporate contracts with Codelco for 2 or 3 years in the thermal lances area.

INTERNATIONALIZATION

Presence in foundries of steel, copper and ferroalloys. Creation of the Ceroxi lance.
Between the years 2006 – 2008, Trefimet defined that the thermal lance business should be strengthened, even looking at international markets.
After this, we decided to implement a new internationalization strategy for our thermal lances, a strategy that required seeking help from marketing companies and generating action plans to serve the foreign market in the best possible way.

Given the increase in exports, the Swedish international agent Peter Sylvén joins the Trefimet team to cover the European market.
Towards the end of 2014, with the aim of increasing the productivity of the Trefimet production plant, an individual incentive system for production based on productivity was created, supported by the SAP system.

The Research & Development department is created. Faced with the evolution of technologies and with the intention of always being at the forefront, Trefimet decides to take this big step forward.

An alliance is made with the distributor for Africa, Neven Matthews.
This distributor is officially opened in South Africa, which is dedicated to the manufacture and sale of pipes (common tubes) in furnaces and the idea of this alliance is to migrate Neven Matthews customers, from the pipe to the Trefimet thermal lance.

In 2018 we moved to the community of Padre Hurtado, a remodeled facility tailored to our needs, with modern facilities and possibilities for expansion.

LABORATORY.
The Trefimet laboratory is modernized, to film new technologies and improvements to our products.
Development of new thermal lances: SuperLance and KatanLance, as well as improvements in oxygen equipment.
Now, we have a range of more than 10 thermal lances, and we are present in more than 20 countries, which forces us to continue working day by day alongside our customers. We are implementing a quality management system, which we will certify under the ISO 90 01:2015 standard, starting this process during the fourth quarter of this year. This management system will allow us to standardize all our processes in search of greater customer satisfaction, managing to add value with our products and services.
NEW DEVELOPMENTS AND HORIZONS

Thanks to our constant communication with our customers, the feedback collected, and the visits made in the field, we developed a lance holder designed for operators, increasing safety and ergonomics for them.
Also, we set ourselves the goal of contributing to the environment, installing a photovoltaic plant that allows us to supply all the consumption of our production plant and more.
Finally, as one of the most important milestones of this 2021, we are proud to tell you that we conquered the 5 continents after doing business with clients in Asia and Oceania.
